Axid Studios
Just a Game Studio
GameMedia has made an interview with the team behind Axid Studios.
Tell me a little bit about yourself.
“My name is Asger Heinricy. I am the CEO and Founder of Axid Studios. I founded Axid Studios when I was 14 years old. Before that, I managed a Project called “Astro”.” — Asger Heinricy (Chief Executive Officer)
“My name is Dante. I am Head of Visual Arts, so I do graphic and visual art. For instance, 3D models, posters and animations for the games. I joined the Axid Team in February of 2021.” — Dante Holt (Head of Visual Arts)
“My name is Oskar. I am the creative manager of Axid Studios and joined in November of 2021. I’m getting started at the moment but plan to work on ideas for games, the general story of a game and figure out gameplay.” — Oskar Fonnesbech (Creative Manager)
“My name is Holden, and I somewhat manage everything. I’ve been helping out everything since we first started, helping Asger make sure things run smoothly and on time. I help manage some of our technology services and I also help bring new and fresh ideas to the table.” — Holden Hoover (Assistant Executive Assistant)
What Does Success Look Like for the Company?
“Success for Axid Studios is when we succeed in making games that people enjoy. We prefer to think of how much our players like our games, rather than how much we made from it. If we can make a game that made everyone who played it happy, then we would be happy too.” — Asger Heinricy (Chief Executive Officer)
How did the idea for your business come about?
“I have been fascinated with Game Development since 2016 when I was 9 years old and we had a programming class in school. In 2019 — when I was 12 — I participated in a Microsoft Game-Jam and decided to go further, creating some games myself, and that’s when I decided to be a game developer.” — Asger Heinricy (Chief Executive Officer)
What was your key driving force to become an entrepreneur?
“I have always liked to create stuff. I don’t like to be limited by working somewhere where I have no control, and being an entrepreneur removes a lot of limitations and has let me create a lot of things.” — Asger Heinricy (Chief Executive Officer)
How did you come up with the name for your company?
“We wanted our name to be unique and we wanted it to sound good. We also wanted to emphasise the fact that we want to be different. We started out with Axid Digital, however, I felt that to be inadequate, so we decided to change it to Axid Studios, which I felt was a much better option, as it sounded much more like a high-quality game studio.” — Holden Hoover (Executive Assistant)
How did you raise funding for your venture?
“In January — when Axid Studios was just founded — we were so lucky to be contacted by two investors. These two investors have been funding us and mentoring us since then, and have been so helpful! They have helped us through lots of challenges, and teaching us how to run a business.” — Asger Heinricy (Chief Executive Officer)
What kind of culture exists in your organization, and how did you establish it?
“Axid Studios is a very relaxed place to work. We don’t put any pressure on our employees, as we know that life is complex and hard sometimes. Sometimes things don’t get done on time, but that’s okay, as we can work through it. We would rather have a high-quality product produced late, than a low-quality product produced on time. This has been my philosophy since the start.” — Holden Hoover (Executive Assistant)
When was the time you realised, that this could be a serious company, and not just a hobby?
“It has been quite a lot of things. First of all, showing up for meetings in a suit, makes me feel like an adult. But when we got our offices in Rødovre, was time I realised that this could be really big. It was definitely the best moment I’ve had in a long time.” — Asger Heinricy(Chief Executive Officer)
